Different Eras

Media: Digital Art, Photoshop Elements 7.0

Time: ~3.5 hours

For my art concentration in 12th grade, I decided to focus on drawing various types of paths. The paths would range from fantastical (like a path that led to a castle or to the sky) to more realistic (like a cobblestone path).

This piece was my favorite in the series. As I've said before, I like to think of brief backstories for my pieces. The stories don't need to make much sense; they just need to explain the scene.

Here's the backstory for this piece:

Two characters (the character on the left representing the present and the character on the right representing her reincarnation) would step into a magical portal that would transport them to another dimension. In this dimension, they could speak with each other. The character on the left seeks advice from her future self. The glass acts as a barrier between the different eras. If the glass weren't there, then time and space would be distorted.

I like this piece because I didn't use any references. Yes, as a result, the piece looks a bit flat and unrealistic, but I am quite happy with the character designs. I just think it's awesome that I could turn something as abstract as an idea into a backstory and then into an actual visualization. 14-year-old me would be thoroughly impressed with how far I've come in terms of art (from mostly line drawings with huge eyes to fully-fledged characters wearing intricate clothing).
