Glass Still Life | Posted: Nov. 10, 2016, 5:47 p.m.
Media: Charcoal, color pencils, and acrylic paint on 20x 30 inch Canson Paper
Time: ~10-12 hours
I completely underestimated the task of drawing glass. "Once I spend some time looking at the arrangement, drawing the flask will be okay," I thought. How wrong I was.
Recreating glass is no easy feat, trust me. This is probably the most difficult still life I have ever drawn.
Major challenges:
- Drawing glass (if I didn't make that point clear enough)
- Capturing the warm lighting
- Drawing wrinkles in fabric
- Perspective (always a challenge for me)
- Basically every component of this piece
I worked in my high school's art studio during my art class and free periods to finish this piece. I remember never quite being satisfied with the piece at any point, which is why if you examine it closely, you'll see strokes built upon one another.
Sometimes I wonder if using a different medium, say oil paint, would have produced a better result.
Despite the numerous challenges this piece presented, I had a fun time, and my art teacher consistently helped me see which aspects of the piece needed fixing.
