Media: Brown Micron pens on sketchbook paper
Time: ~ 4 hours
This piece is sort of an homage to Van Gogh. I drew a couple scenes from school and my backyard, adding some fantastical elements to them.
I had such a fun time working on this piece! Mark-making is an interesting technique, as it requires much creativity and variation.
Creating perspective and depth through just the use of line is difficult, especially if you haven't done it before. I messed up the lines quite frequently when using pen, so I would have to subtly cover up the blotch through the use of layering.
My Process:
1. Lightly sketch out the scene with pencil. Pay close attention to placement of objects. Do not focus on the details.
2. Start mark making and let the marks vary, in terms of thickness, curvature, slant, density, length, etc.
I feel like I cheated the process a bit since I didn't immediately work with pen. I do not have a firm grasp on perspective, so using pencil to place the items acted as a blueprint for when I worked on filling in the details with pen.
